Surf the Murph – Savage 100

For those who are familiar with the Surf the Murph trail races (25K, 50K, and 50 Mile) in late October – welcome the first 100 mile trail race in the Twin Cities metro area!

Yep, the Savage 100 is 6 loops of the Surf the Murph course and the inaugural race will take place next spring on May 17-18, 2014. It’s a 3 am start (!) with a 34 hour cut-off.

Registration is open and will be capped at 100 runners.


River Restoration Run

Introducing the inaugural half marathon, marathon, 60K, and 80K through the Pigeon River Forest in northern Lower Michigan!

The River Restoration Run is being hosted by Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat Center on Saturday, September 7. Yoga classes specifically tailored towards runners will also be offered throughout the weekend! Also included: environmental talks, gourmet vegetarian meals, and live entertainment. Barefoot or minimalist footwear is encouraged, though shoes are welcome 🙂

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Pigeon River. Registration is OPEN!


Paleozoic Trail Runs

Ready for a fast approaching 25K or 50K just 22 miles south of Chicago?

The inaugural Paleozoic Trail Runs will take place on the Palos Trail System within the Cook County Forest Preserves on March 16! This is a perfect warm up race for those running Ice Age in early May and is directed by experienced Ice Age Trail veterans Bill & Michelle Thom.

Extreme North Dakota Sandhills Ultra Run

North Dakota now has a trail ultramarathon run scheduled to take place on March 16, not quite the end of winter!

The Extreme North Dakota Sandhills Ultra Run takes place on 50K of the North Country Trail that is located in the Sheyenne National Grasslands, just 45 miles southwest of Fargo. The course winds across grasslands, rolling prairie, and rugged sand hills.

Porcupine Mountains Trail Marathon

Great Lakes Endurance is offering up a brand new race in Upper Michigan this year: the Porcupine Mountains Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K on October 5, 2013! Yes, this is peak fall color season!

The Porcupine Mountains – aka “The Porkies” – are one of the largest wilderness areas east of the Mississippi and overlook the rugged shoreline of  Lake Superior. The trail includes single track and cross country ski trails.  Sounds like the marathon course will include visits to Mirror Lake and Lake of the Clouds – stunning scenery!

Don’t miss this one!! It will fill fast since it’s during peak color season!

Zumbro 100 Adds 17 Mile

In an effort to allow more runners to experience the beauty and challenge of southeastern Minnesota’s steep bluff country, the Zumbro 100 will debut a 17 mile race in addition to the midnight 50 mile and flagship 100 mile this year. It’s a point to point race on singletrack trail with a total net elevation gain/loss of almost 6200 feet on a 16.7 mile loop. There is a nine hour cut-off and the race is limited to 200 runners.

Registration opens on November 1, 2012 for all three races. This one’s gonna fill fast, so toss your hat in the ring early!


Running Village 25K & 50K

There’s a brand new trail race in Iowa!

Introducing the Running Village 25K & 50K set to debut in Cedar Falls on October 13,  the course features a 25K loop that runners will navigate either once or twice depending on their choice of distance.  Surface is 90% dirt and grass with lots of twisty single track and a stream crossing.

There’s also a $500 prize for the men’s and women’s winners, so toe the line while the inaugural field is still small to increase your chances of taking home some cash! Only a matter of time before the word gets out 😉


Tuscobia Winter Ultra

Had enough of the oppressive heat this summer? Start making plans to run, bike or ski your choice of 35, 75, or 150 miles in the North Woods of Wisconsin this December!

The Tuscobia Winter Ultra will take place on the Tuscobia Trail between Rice Lake and Park Falls on December 28 – 30, 2012. No crews or pacers are allowed, and there are gear requirements – check it out before you sign up!

New this year – the Tuscobia Winter Ultra is a qualifying event for the 2014 Iditarod Trail Invitational, and one of the 150 mile finishers will win a paid entry to the 2014 ITI race (valued at $1000)! More details here.

Minnesota Voyageur 50 Mile Trail Run

The Minnesota Voyageur 50 Mile Trail Run is ON for 2012!

Kudos to the race directors and volunteers who have been working their tails off to find a safe alternative on very short notice so that this event could happen for 2012. You guys are rock stars!
